Commemorate Publishing 1000 Hubs - My HubPages Experience
84DATE: 10/9/11
This is my 1,000th hub, which I am proud to present as a commemoration of my time spent at HubPages. (You can see my countdown hubs below.)
Writing 1,000 hubs was a challenge at times. There were times where I couldn't stop writing, publishing multiple hubs a day, but there were times where I couldn't come up with anything to write about or just couldn't get inspired to write about topics I had already thought of. One-thousand hubs is a huge ordeal and accomplishment for me, especially for the reward that I receive (both monetarily and mentally).
Writing on HubPages is a great outlet where I can help others with their pets, share popular gadgets and accessories, and earn at the same time.
My HubPages revenue doubles my regular job's monthly salary. Now, that's with years of a lot of work, stress, and strain, but I have done it. I'm not quitting my day job any time soon, as it does offer benefits that freelance writing doesn't, but I'm quite pleased with the extra income that HubPages has provided to me.
So anyway with that said, this is my 1,000th published hub. This is a summary of my experiences at hubpages, with a few statistics, and a few tips and suggestions that may help others.
The HubPages Community
Forums: When dealing with the community, especially in the forums, learn how to build a tough skin. Without it, you just may get upset, pissed off, stepped on, etc. There are plenty of strong personalities in the forums, that frequently butt heads. If you plan to be on the forums and participate, tread lightly until you get the hang of all the different personalities.
The forums is a great place to get to know your fellow Hubbes and learn tips about succeeding here, but please keep in mind that there is a 'search' feature for a reason. It may take some time to find the answer, but there are tons of repeat questions and suggestions asked. The 'search' feature will help, as will the 'Help' section tabbed at the top of the site.
Answers Section: The Answers section is not for opinions, yes/no questions, questions regarding HubPages (publishing hubs, getting followers, how to questions, etc.), spam, or anything that violates the terms of the site. This area is meant to be a idea getter of sorts. The HubPages Answer section is an area where you can post questions and ideas that will get you an answer but it will give someone else the idea to write a hub on the topic. Flag anything less.
Hub Hop: Is a feature to help get hubs noticed that may not normally be noticed. It's also a great place to find spam, adult hubs, and low quality hubs. Flag the bad, and read the rest.
All the rest: Read hubs, comment where needed, flag the junk, and have fun. It's really simple. Participate when you can, but don't focus on making your participation a huge aspect of your experience here. The most important part of being here on this site is to write. Whether you're writing to make money, to inform, as a stress reliever, or for any other reason or purpose, that's the idea behind HubPages.
* Don't fuse and fight over your hubber score or your hub score. It changes all the time, so don't grow gray hairs over it. Just mind your business and write. When you don't feel like writing, or you have the extra time, then participate.
* If you have any major problems or concerns, email the HubPage team. That means that there's no reason to post a million threads on the forums about a spammer or a mass copier. If you have any beef or problems with the HubPages team unpublishing a hub, email them directly, don't post the personal business on the forums. I don't want to be rude, but these issues should be taken up by the team, not clogging the forums.
Here's the HubPages email address: team@hubpages.com
My Topics - Choosing Hub Topics
I have a variety of hub topics and niches that I've wrote about, and I will continue to increase my numbers as long as I'm allowed to stay with the HubPages community. My basic and more common topics that I write about include those that I'm interested in and knowledgeable with, as well as those where I just want to learn more information.
- Writing about topics you're familiar, with gives you a good base of information to start with. You'll create a nice source of hubs that will benefit others who may not be as knowledgeable about the particular topic.
- Writing about topics that you're not so familiar with, gives you the opportunity to learn something new.
When writing, I tend to write about things that I'm interested in, as my interest and enthusiasm tends to come through in my writing, whether in the voice or the design.
Common topics that I write about in my hubs may include, but are not limited to the following:
Current Stats (date)
Animals
- American Pit Bull Terriers
- Dog breeds
- Dog health
- Dog training
- Reptiles and amphibians (geckos, snakes, tortoises, etc.)
- Small animals (pet rats, hamsters, chinchillas, etc.)
Body Modification
- Body piercings
- Tattoos
Games and Toys
Health
Technology
- Cell phones
- Computers and laptops
I also cover various miscellaneous topics, that include various sales related hubs, health hubs, and others.
Make Money with HubPages
I write as a reliever, but I also write to help supplement my income. I do pretty well.
It took some years before I reached where I am today, but I'm in a pretty good place. Having 1,000 hubs doesn't hurt by any mean, and having the patience is a real plus. My current standings are mostly recent, and I've been maintaining the numbers for about six months (doubling my regular monthly income).
I use Google Adsense, Ebay Partner Network, and Amazon Affiliates.
I tried Kontera, but had a terrible go at it; they took money every month, and the monthly payout was minimal compared to the other affiliates that HubPages currently uses. Once I got rid of Kontera, I noticed a substantial change in my Adsense earnings. Do I suggest using Kontera as an affiliate? Nope
But, anyway... My earnings on HubPages don't come from keyword strategizing, nor do they come from major bookmarking and linking. My earnings come from the natural sit-and-wait strategy.
Pre-Panda, my average monthly earnings include:
- Adsense: $1400-$1800
- Ebay: $300-$450
- Amazon: $250-$500
Post-Panda, my average monthly earnings include:
- HubPages Ads: $900-$1400
- Adsense: $200-$450
- Ebay: $100-$200
- Amazon: $150-$300
My holiday earnings in regards to products sold via Ebay and/or Amazon are much greater, but on a regular month, the above numbers are about average earned from HubPages.
I write what sounds interested to me, and what I want to learn about. I will occasionally pick items that I think may be big hits and see hose those hubs go, and sometimes they're hits and sometimes they're misses.
Commercials are a great place to find products to promote, as well as the new big gadget and their accessories (iPad, iPod, digital camera, etc.). Just try to be the first, and try to make a series if you can. Once there's already hundreds and thousands of web pages on the topic, promoting the product, your one hub just adds to the numbers. Yes, hubs tend to get indexed fast and high, but once there are thousands of pages on the same thing, it's hard to make money among the masses.
Note: Never put all of your eggs in one basket! Have other blogs and websites of your own.

I am blown away by your numbers. People tell me I'm writing at an amazing pace but then I look at your total...well, thank you for the inspiration!
I admire your perseverance. I will hit 100 by the end of the summer, and I joined last November. I'd love to follow your footsteps! Congratulations!
Sounds Great and this is really great inspiration to a new comer like me ...
Thanks for sharing and thumbs up for the 1000 Hubs..
Wow Whitney awesome achievement! I have read so many of your hubs and found them really interesting and helpful too. I hope you keep writing and look forward to see what you do with the next 1,000 hubs.
wow this is awesome, I am counting mine to 100, and I wonder if I can reach this far... you are amazing, got interested with your hubs... I can see you also like dogs so we have common grounds...
Whitney05,
Congratulations for this great achievement of yours.
Wow!!! I can't believe you actually did 1000 hubs. That is truly an amazing feat. I am glad to hear that you are making a good income from them, as well. What a great feat and you are an encouragement to the rest of us. I am definitely sharing this one for my followers to see. Nice to "meet" you!
So after four months of publishing you have added only 15 hubs so far..
Congrats on 1000! Also, thanks for sharing an estimate on your earnings as well as listing your top rated hubs. It's nice to get an idea on what our potential can be. Voted up!
Congrats on publishing 1000 hubs. It is a great inspiration for newcomers. Your tips are valuable. Thanks.
Wow, congrats on 1,000 hubs. That is quite the achievement, and a lot of work! Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Wow a 1,000. I am only at 400 and I thought that was a big deal in 6 months.
Congratulations.

Congrats for the 1000th hub.
Also thank you for sharing your experience that you have gained in the last 4 years.
congratulations for your 1000 Hubs and your improvement here, and thanks for this inspiration article that give me some hope in the future. voted up
Congratulations! Its really touching achievement. Still I dont believe that we can earn that much. In adsense account, I have 10USD only. Will this grow? At least to 100. :) Best wishes!
congrats on your success. 1,000 hubs is an accomplishment to be proud about.
A big congrats Whitney. You and your dog are both beautiful. While I'm not at HP any more I do check in on your writing on a regular basis and I'm so happy that you're doing well. I still really enjoy your animal hubs the best!
Its really not easy considering the fact also that the returns in money is not huge. Congratulations.
1000 Hubs.... that is some going!
Well done on publishing that many great hubs - and here's to the next 1000.
Oh - and this hub itself is very informative and inspiring
Congrats on 1000 hubs....a very impressive accomplishment....I just got to 100....and I realize how hard that was...I can only imagine 1000....thanks for sharing.
Awesome, you are very dedicated and your work is proof of your expertise. I learned how important it is to be consistent, because slow and steady wins the race.
Congratulations on your achievement, you have much to be proud of.
You are one Savage Hubber You!
Congrats on your accomplishment! You have so much to be proud of, and it is definitely about more than the money. It's encouraging for all Hubbers to hear about your "sit and wait" policy. Many people want to make money quickly, and that just isn't how HubPages works. But that doesn't mean that it isn't worth it. Looking forward to seeing where you go from here!
Congratulations on 1000. I have been trying to figure out if I have everything set up right, but I have not written enough yet. You just inspired me.
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm on again, off again on HubPages, since I don't have all my eggs in this basket. My 30 hubs haven't even gotten me to a single payout yet, and I'm not doing much with Amazon or eBay since I live in California and haven't put any of my products back since I removed them when I lost my affiliate status. I have signed up for the eBay program, so we will see what happens. At least I won't have to rely solely on AdSense and the HubPage ad income anymore.
I do congratulate you on this achievement. You haved motivated me to at least try to get to 100 hubs by year's end.
1000 !!! That is a lot oh hubs . Congratulations .
You had to work for several years to accomplish it. Congratulations!
Congratulations! Imagine that....what great milestones. Keep up the great work!
This is amazing, I fail to follow my plan so many time and skipped it because lacking ideas to produce more but gain more courage after reading your hub.
Congratulations on your 1000th Hub! This is an amazing achievement. You are truly dedicated to your craft.
It is really encouraging to see your income figures. Like you, my numbers are about half what they were before Panda but they have been getting in the last month. Thank you for sharing your data and your story.
This is an awesome milestone to reach. im excited about hitting 100 soon. dont know if ill hit 1000. great work.
Good work! Congratulations!
Congratulations on 1000 hubs! You have some inspiring stuff going here, and I look forward to reading more of your hubs! :)
Congratulations! From where I've sitting with my '7' Hubs, even the thought of reaching 1000 hubs seems impossible. That's amazing, and this is a wonderful helpful hub. I am so glad you shared this with everybody. Just reading through it I've gotten some great ideas on different writing topics and changed my perception on a view things about Hubpages. I am thrilled you have so much success with everything writing and monetary wise. It definitely gives those of us just starting out a lot of hope! Very awesome pics by the way! Bull Mastiff's rock! Voted up and all across the board. Congratulations again!
This is really great. Congratulations for following through and writing such a large body of work. As others have said, your success is very inspiring! All best.
Congratulations. Its a great achievement. A sincere hubber only may understand how difficult is to write thousand good hubs. I have also been here for 4 years but have only one hundred hubs. Often it becomes difficult to publish a single hub in several days. Hubbers like you always inspire others and advise in the hub may be of great value for hubbers like me.
Congratulations! It is such an inspiration to hear that you reached 1000 hubs! You mention not to put all your eggs in one basket by having other blogs, websites, etc. Do you equate your other blogs and websites to your success by backlinking, etc. to HubPages? I think it would be helpful to know if you use blogs and other websites in addition to HubPages to generate income, and if so is HubPages the major source of income, as opposed to the affiliates? Looks like there is a link between Hubpages and your other blogs and websites. I'm a little confused, but as you can see I am still relatively new here on HubPages. I appreciate you sharing. Thanks!

Congratulations and THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for sharing this. Sometimes the low income can be discouraging but I've often heard it said that it's in the numbers, and quality, of the hubs. Your hub is SO encouraging.
Congratulations! It's great to hear that you focus on what you're enthusiastic about without a lot of keyword analysis and backlinking -- I was getting stressed-out trying to figure all of that out. Self-promotion isn't a major interest of mine -- I think that's the main reason I've taken such long breaks from HP. That and I have clients who pay me to write, so it's challenging to invest time here and not know how it will go. You're an inspiration. Lots of good advice about dealing with the forums and issues on the site. I agree about contacting HP directly about issues -- one of my client forums is so full of whining I rarely read any of it anymore. I'm glad you commemorated your success by sharing it with the rest of us. Voted up -- brava to you.
Congratulations and I think you have written the book on being successful on hub pages.
Also, I find it interesting that you haven't spent all the time on keywords and backlinking that everyone swears by. Was it like many say--you just write quality stuff and wait for success...?
Sorry, whitney, ignore my previous comment. I just tried to edit it, but it was too late. I read the comments before reading your hub, haha. You are inspiring! I have a job and a half, so sometimes I just have to take a break from hubbing to clean house, or work in the yard, or spend time with my family, friends, or pets. I've just got to keep going, it sounds like. Thanks for sharing all your progress with us. Voted up, awesome, useful, and interesting!
What an amazing milestone - congratulations and continued best wishes Whitney! GREAT hub and reference.
Voted awesome and bookmarking
Woah!! awesome!!
Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your personal experience with us. Looking forward to writing more and more. I'm getting loads of offers to complete as a freelance writer and at the same time I got university, assignments, exams and much much more to handle. I'm just trying to find the time to write useful hubs.
For sure during my holidays I'm going to be publishing plenty of hubs and I'm looking forward to that day.
Thanks once again and looking forward to reading lots more from you.
Whitney, thanks for sharing. Did you fall significantly? You think you'll get back to where you were?
This is an absolutly amazing accomplishment. It should give every one incentive to get off their butts and get writing. I know I wasted a lot of time trying to decide if I was even going to stay at Hubpages. Well I now know I am staying and I am going for 1000 Hubs. Thank you so much for being an inspiration.
WOW! 1,000 hubs!!! Congratulations, Whitney! Thanks for sharing your experience here on Hubpages. 1,000 hubs in four years is quite an accomplishment. Thanks for the advice.. you are so right about the forums. lol
I had lost my motivation and had only written one or two hubs the past three months. I think I just got back my motivation from reading your hub. Thank you so much. Cheers!
Have a nice day,
Rosie
congrats! i just got started here and that seems like it'd be a million years away for me!
Congratulations on 1000, and thank you for the reminder that I need to get writing again. Re:Panda, I have finally gotten back to monthly payouts from adsense, and with the hubpages ad program, I am approaching where I was in February.
Wow! Congratulations. I can't imagine being able to write 1000 hubs! This is so awesome for a newbie to read. I am inspired by both you and your success. Once again, congratulations, and here's to the next 1000!
What an achievement! 1,000 hubs!!! You have been busy and your monthly income is encouragement for all of us to continue writing. Here is to the next 1,000 hubs. Maybe by then you will quit your day job. :)) Up and useful.
Congratulations. It's a long journey but here you are. 1000th hubs. Way to go!
Congratulations! I wonder if I will ever get that many, but you are doing great.
You are another Hub Hero of mine! Congratulations for being such an inspiration!
Good for you! Good hub and congrats on your milestone!
awesome
Congratulations on this awesome milestone! I envy you because you have such great motivation! Its so good to hear a post-Panda success story. I have been publishing new Hubs every couple of days and my HubberScore has taken a toll. Ironically, my traffic is low too, but my earnings (from HubPages Earnings Program) have slightly increased. My Adsense increases a little each month. One thing that you pointed out is that it's so true about sticking with it and not getting discouraged. It's all about the long-run and the future. Thanks for the inspiration! Never stop writing!
JSMatthew~
WOW! And I don't mean World of Warcraft. Halo 3 - recommended. I know check your hubs. This is one of the most encouraging hubs I have read in a long while. As a matter of fact it has helped me to decide a personal issue regarding re-arranging my life to continue being participative here in the degree I have over the past 30 days. I could write a hub on reading your hub. There are a lot of treasures here and I love treasure hunts.
A Big Hearty Congrats and Thank you Whitney05
Congratulations on a successful run.Ill try to learn from you and others how to earn money in this game.votedup, useful ,interesting and beautiful.
Thanks for the inspiration Pretty Miss Whitney!
I'm most impressed by the ten million views, nobody gets that kind of traffic without being very good at what they are doing.
Wow! Congratulations! 1,000 hubs is a lot. It is so wonderful to hear someone say exactly how I feel. Sometimes I want to write multiple hubs in one day and sometimes I am just not inspired. If someone with your success feels that way, I don't feel so bad. Thanks for sharing! Awesome hub!

An exemplar of success. Thanks to your hubs.
