Feeding Innova EVO Dog Food Is The Best

Dog Food
If you're ever heard, you are what you eat, you may have thought about what you eat and considered your own diet, but you probably never considered your dog's diet. There are so many brands and types of dog food available, that it can be hard to determine which one is best for your dog. Your vet claims Science Diet is the best, the pet store claims Nutro is the best, the guy down the street likes Solid Gold, and your dog trainer likes the raw diet. Whatever the case is, not all dog food and diets are for every dog. What you need to consider is the nutrient value, what you want to spend, and how healthy you really want your dog.
You can go cheap, and buy Alpo or Ole Roy from Wal*Mart, but don't ever try to learn how to read dog food labels in order to convince yourself that what you're putting into the dog bowl is any good. It's sufficient to fill your dog's belly, and he may love it, but there are much better options to consider.
Dog food is not an exact science, but some options are better than others.
Personally, I never heard of Evo Innova until my American Pit Bull Terrier was diagnosed with cancer. We started researching, and found that cancer cells feed on sugars and carbohydrates, so it was time to make a change in her diet. Now, I've always been a stickler on what food my dogs eat, and she's always had the best (all natural, premium dog foods). But, no matter what foods I offered, she was still getting more carbs than what is in the recipe for EVO.
EVO Dog Food Nutritional Value
Dogs need a higher protein diet, as their ancestors are high meat eaters, and when choosing a dog food, the protein content is typically going to be the most important aspect of the diet as our domestic dogs are descendants of high protein eaters. EVO does its best to closely resemble a raw diet in the convenience of a dry kibble or can, provideing dogs with the energy and nutrients they needs from a high meat-based diet that many dog foods cannot and do not provide.
Your main flavors are going to be Chicken/Turkey and Red Meat. Looking at the most important nutrition levels (protein, fat, and fiber), you can see how high the protein levels are and how low the fiber levels are. You will find that in general, when you can have your grains and fibers at their lowest, you'll actually see a difference in your dog; he'll be more active, healthier, and leaner (not skinny).
When looking at the dog food label, you'll find the Nutrient Analysis which is the nutrient content specific for that formula dog food, and the Guaranteed Analysis which is the nutrient content required by AAFCO labeling standards.
Chicken and Turkey dry food formula:
Nutrient Analysis- Protein- 43.43%; Fat- 22.74%; Fiber- 1.43%
Guaranteed Analysis- Crude Protein (min) 42 % Crude Fat (min) 22 % Crude Fiber (max) 2.5 %
Red Meat dry food formula:
Nutrient Analysis- Protein 44.17 %; Fat- 23.13%; Fiber- 1.72%
Guaranteed Analysis- Crude Protein (min) 42 % Crude Fat (min) 22 % Crude Fiber (max) 2.5 %
Benefits of an EVO Diet
Because EVO is a grain-free, low carbohydrate diet, your dog gets tons of benefits. This dog food is not just for dogs recovering cancer. It's a dog food that will benefit any dog. EVO is derived from premium meats that are highly digestible versus scraps and left over meat products that many dog foods really contain. The food also contains nutrients that are vital to your dog's health, such as amino acids, minerals, and vitamins essential for strong bones and muscles.
This may sound Greek to you, but to make it a little more simple, the basic benefits of feeding your dog EVO include:
- Because the food is grain free, it's perfect for dogs with grain allergies and excess carbohydrate intake concerns (IE overweight dogs)
- High protein levels that are ideal for healthy bones, muscles, and organ function
- Contains essential vitamins and minerals for healthy skin and coat
- Contains vital antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals
- Because it's packed with ideal nutrients, the dog eats less, decreasing the amount of waste he will produce
- Easy for dogs to digest
- TASTES GOOD (highly important to picky eaters)
EVO dog food is great for dogs with sensitive stomachs, weight conditions, picky eaters, etc. Just remember that because it is a high protein diet, you do need to make sure that your dog is drinking plenty of water, as the one downfall with any high protein diet is that it can affect the kidneys if the proteins are processed fully throughout the body.
EVO Pet Food Flavors
EVO is not only a dog food, but you can purchase EVO cat food and EVO ferret food, but I have not tried either, as I do not have a cat or ferret. I assume because the dog food is rated so highly, the cat and ferret foods are as well.
As for the dog food, you will find that you can purchase both dry kibble and canned foods.
Dry Food Flavors:
- Chicken and Turkey
- Red Meat
- Herring and Salmon
Canned Food Flavors:
- Chicken and Turkey
- Beef
- Duck
- Venison
You can also purchase a new weight management formula dog food.
Alternate Dog Food Options
If you're going to feed your dog something healthy, make sure it's natural and has as few grains and fillers as possible. Remember the more fillers that the food contains, the more your dog will have to eat in order to absorb the same amount of nutrients as in more nutritious foods. The more food your dog eats, the more you have to buy, and the more he goes to the bathroom.
But, there are a few options, that are not 100% comparible to EVO, but they are still much better than many of the other grocery store brand alternatives.

This link will help you compare EVO to some of the other popular dog foods on the market in terms of ingredients

- Cycle
- Diamond
- Eagle Pack

You will find that some of these brands are better than others, but not will truly compare to EVO.

Evo is a great Dog Food. I currently do not use that brand, but have tried it in the past. So many high quality brands on the market, it is just so difficult to sift through them all to find what is right for your dog. Thanks for the great info.
Dose anyone know of any good muscle supplements for pitbulls?
@Kathy,
The reason your dog could be itching is because the science hill prescription diets have some of the worst ingredients. Your dog maybe allergic to grain, and the reason she is itching is because it is full of corn and soybeans. I highly recommend a grain free food like Evo or Canidae, they make a good grain free food. Prescription diets are also more expensive, even though it's worse!
Can i mix the evo red meats dry food with evo can food for my pitbulls?
Can you tell me what food is best to feed my 8 year old diabetic pit, Gabby. We are feeding Hill science prescription diet w/d. She bites her paws and is
loosing some of her hair as well as a whole lot of
scratching? any advice will be appreciated.
I have tried EVO for my dogs but they teared very bad, had to go back to Natures Variety! But i must say my mothers dog is doing well with it.
I was feeding EVO red-meat small bites to my dog and I agree he did well on it, but he didn't like it very much. When we visited with other dogs he would always snub his bowl in favour of the other dogs'.
I just switched to Taste of the Wild and he seems to like it better (so far, it's only been a few days...)
Hi Whitney,
I have a 8 mths old yellow lab. he's very active, he swims a lot. though he's active he soooo skinny & started shedding a lot. right now i'm feeding him with ol'roy food. I tried feeding him Purina one, Pedigree and so on.. it's same... he's sooo skinny. do you think it would make any difference if I switch to this food for my dog?? please help.
I'll admit it, I giggled when I saw that you mentioned Ol' Roy. It may be the stuff of legends, but I'm not if that is the legend you want. (I don't like to scoop.)
I liked the fact that you not only mentioned Innova EVO, but some other reputable brands as well. I use one of those with my dog and have had great luck with it.
Thanks for letting me know I will move over to chicken than cause though my dog likes the beef he has bad gas.
Did anyone hear that Proctor and Gamble are buying the company that makes EVO. I wonder if they will lower the quality of the food in order to make profit. God I hope not my pitbull loves EVO.
Also I have a question Whitney I saw in the post above that you said that chicken is easier for the dog to digest the protien I feed my dog the EVO beef do you recomend the chicken instead?
i have a 14week old bully (pocket) pitbull, a female, and she does pretty well on the store brand food, but i dont see the muscle development i want, she farts a lot, and she is just sluggish, she weighs around 18-20lbs lbs right now, and i really want her to be super thick but not compromising her health, what evo product would be best for her, and how much do i have to feed her, i normally give her 3 cups in the morning and 1.5 cups in the evening. would evo red meat be best for her to be able to achieve the muscle tone im hoping for? what other supplements do ineed, i love her a lot and would give her the best i can offer. thanks for reading my post...
A well informationative hub. I am sure all dog owners will be interested in your mentioning of no grain in EVO.
That's a new one to me. Thanks for the info
How about the regular Innova brand? How does that compare to their Evo product line? My dog has tried both. I can't really tell if there is a difference in my dog from eating one over the other?
