HP TouchSmart Touch Screen Computer
Touch Screen Desktop
Although, HP is not the first manufacturer who has created the all in one desktop computer, they have definitely innovated the technology. I think that with time the idea of the touch screen computer will take off and other manufacturers will create their own version of the HP TouchSmart computer.
Personally, when I saw the computer first on an HP commercial I was pretty surprised. I mean it has been a while since we've really heard from HP, and I think their rei-ntro in to the computer world is a pretty good one. (Although, of course they never really left the market.)
But, anyway, below you will find the basic specs of the HP TouchSmart PC with the overall advantages and disadvantages for buying and using the touch screen computer.
Read up and then make your decision as to whether or not the $1,779 computer is the one that you want to upgrade to.
HP Touch Smart
The HP TouchSmart computer desktop is completely touch screen. You can run Windows Vista on the computer using your finger or the stylus. The HP TouchSmart computer features regular day to day applications, such as the default calender, photo editing applications, and basic weather display. You will also have Post-Its that you can leave on your desktop and drag around with the date and time on the calender.
You can use the keyboard to type in the notes, as well as the virtual keyboard using your finger or stylus to type directly onto the program itself. You can also leave voice messages on the Post-It notes and calender as well.
But, for the most part, the HP TouchSmart works the same as a regular PC.
The TouchSmart PC includes the following basic features:
- A slot loading, LightScribe capable DVD burner
- An 8-in-1 media card reader
- Integrated 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth
- A TV tuner
- A webcam with a microphone on the top edge of the LCD monitor
- The usually assortment of video and audio connections
Although, you won't find the HDMI port or the HD optical drive on the computer, you do get audio from the integrated speakers.
The HP TouchSmart desktop computer has a 320 GB hard drive with 7,200 rpm which will give you plenty of room for your media storage. But, HP has also built in a Pocket Media Drive bay into the side of the computer, which will allow you to expand your memory using one of the new HP portable hard drives. Or, you can just connect an old external hard drive using the 2.0 USB drive or a FireWire 400 port.
Although, the HP TouchSmart can run a little slow at times, with the combination of the dual core AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-52 processor and a discrete Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 graphics chip, you should have plenty of juice for your every day applications and day to day useage.
The computer has a 47.7 frame per second and a super high quality image setting with the wide, glossy monitor, which makes the HP TouchSmart a great computer to play games on.
You should know that you may get tied down just a little when you are doing intense digital media editing, but for the most part, you shouldn't have any problems or major concerns with the HP TouchSmart computer.
Will you invest in the HP TouchSmart?
And in conclusion...
The overall advantages of the HP TouchSmart PC is that it definitely takes advantage of Windows Vista's touch screen capabilities while combining easy to use software. You will also find that the HP TouchSmart computer also takes advantage of HP's printer and media storage skills with its at home kiosk media editing programs, which makes it great for those of us who enjoy printing pictures for scrapbooking and making photo DVDs for family.
But, you do have the overall disadvantages of the HP TouchSmart PC, which includes its occasional slow performance for the price that you will end up paying for the computer. Plus, the HP Touch Smart computer lacks the HD optical drive and has a fixed configuration.
So, given this, it is up to you to make your decision as to whether or not the HP TouchSmart PC is the computer that you want to upgrade to. Just remember that although, it is not quite as fast as Apple's iMac or have the same clean, streamline appearance, the HP TouchSmart does make up for that with its touch screen software and comprehensive features.
The HP TouchSmart PC really is a great computer to help organize your photos, family schedule, and other day to day features that you use on a computer. Plus, you can transfer media to computer in another room using the HP TouchSmart's applications and software.
