List of Dogs That Do Not Shed- Low Shed Dogs

Non-Shedding Dogs
There is not such thing as a dog that does not shed and will never shed. All dogs will shed at least a little bit at some time during the year. The difference is that some dogs shed very little hair, which can be very beneficial for those with dog allergies. Just remember that people who are allergic to dogs are not allergic to the dog hair, but the dog dander which is essentially flakes of skin, and all dogs have dog dander. So keep in mind that people with dog allergies may not be allergic to all dogs whether they are low shed or not.
I have actually spoken to a man who raises and breeds American Pit Bull Terriers. He has several APBTs, but of all of the dogs, only one of the dogs does not affect his allergies. So, you can't specify one breed or the other, as in this case he raises all the same breed, and only one is able to live in the house, since it doesn't affect his allergies towards dogs.
As for non-shedding dogs though, you will find that in most cases, their
coats aren't always going to be the easiest to care for. Consider the Bichon Frise, Yorkie, and Maltese, all of which
require daily grooming even though they are low shed dogs. Poodles and poodle mixes,
which are the most popular "hypo-allergenic dog," require a good deal
of grooming as well. In many cases, it's not uncommon for at least two
trips to the groomers a month, costing $30 to $100 or more.
When you're looking for a low shedding dog, you'll want to keep in
mind that most dogs with wire, curly, or stiff hair tend to shed less
and require less grooming. Dogs with multi-layered coasts, require more
grooming, and fine haired dogs require even more grooming. Even if you
bring home a non-shedding dog, remember that you will still find loose
dog hairs on the floor or in the carpet at different times of the year-
such as spring/early summer and during winter.
Again, keep in mind that if you are allergic to dogs, you can not always rely on "hypo-allergenic" dog breeds," as the allergies stem from dog dander not dog hair. Dogs that are low shedding dogs are a great place to start, though.

Choosing a No Shed Dog
As you can see the list above is not just pure-bred dogs. Generally, if you have a mix breed that is of a low shed dog breed, you'll encounter the possibility of a low shed dog.
My suggestion is that you check out shelters and available dogs and just spend a little time with the ones that you like. Not all dogs will react with your allergies the same, and you may be surprised as to which dog breeds may not affect your dog allergies, and like I said before, even dogs of the same breed may affect your allergies the differently, so don't discount a dog just because of its breed. You really never know what dog will or won't affect your allergies.
Be open minded to change, but at the same time keep in mind the above list of low shed dog breeds when looking for a dog, especially if you or someone in your family has an allergy to dogs. Just always remember just because a dog may not affect your allergies, you should still consider whether or not the dog fits into your lifestyle.
A hyperactive dog that doesn't cause you to sneeze, break out in hives, have breathing problems, or affect your allergies in any way, shape, or form, just may not be the best dog for your low-key family. Keep in mind the dog's temperament, your training abilities, other dog owning factors, and of course how the dog affects you, must all come into play when choosing the right dog for your family.

How much do black labs shed cause I see some of them shed terribly while others do not shed much.
Don't think Alaskan Malamutes will make this list - but every once in a while I think of it...just heard the other day from someone out and about with our 2 mals though that the labradoodle is working out great for no shedding/ allergy folks and see you have it listed. I think I'm always going to be an AM woman though!
Wow I loved this hub to I won't go aimlessly searching around the internet anymore lol. I'll come here next time and thanks for all the simply intelligent info.
Hey Whitney! Love your Hub! Almost anytime someone says 'never' or 'always' they're mistaken. You wrote it correctly and with love for the pooches. We have a miniture Schnauzer who sheds so little its near nothing. We love him and hardly notice the hair but you can't miss the bark, Wow! Peace.
I have a Shih Tzu and I love that she doesn't shed. Although since she's white I do have to be careful about wearing black around her. She doesn't seem so much hairy as linty :P
Some of you seem to be confusing the term shedding (which is comparable to moulting in other animals) with hair loss. I have a pair of Chinese Cresteds (the furry kinds, a.k.a. powderpuffs) and I can promise you that the only time they lose any hair whatsoever is when they get groomed. If you're going to argue that this counts as "shedding," then I guess we all "shed" when we brush ourselves as well.
I have a family that is extremely allergic to animals. Luckily enough, I came across a Lhasa Apso that adored my kids and husband. So far I haven't had any problems with their allergies. Just last December, I purchaced a Bischon Frise and bred it with my Lhasa. Their offspring are registered La-Chons. I haven't had any problems with my family having allergies to any of the animals. Unless they are wrestling ruffly, non of them shed.
Great hub. And thank for making the record straight

Dog lovers are great but don't give me the crap that your dog does not shed. Shed less yes but sheds.
READ WHOLE COMMENT-----What are some dander free dogs?!?-Please post comment back. :)Thanks,Emmey55
My sister got her son a Bichon and it is amazing how little that dog does shed. Really it is almost none at all.
I have 9 pets in my home - 3 of which are dogs and they shed - I can probably make a few more dogs weekly from it - lol. I wrote a lens on Squidoo about how you can Recycle Fur - some people think it is weird, but I say when a dog gives you fur - make something!!! Great Hub!!!
A retired relative with breathing problems has just recently bought a Lakeland Terrier. It is a lovely little dog.
beautiful hub whitney!! hubby and I hope to be able to have a german shepard/blk and tan/ one day when we have 27 hours in a day :) right now :) we have a cat named dog...dont ask :)
A useful bit of information. We currently have an old dog, a Husky/German Shepherd mix.She is a great dog but we are not able to keep up with the grooming. Most of these dogs are not ones I am familiar with but we will keep them in mind
I am a dog lover, yet have never owned a dog, due to living in penthouses and apartments that prohibited dogs. However, I'm looking a to buy a house within the next year and as soon as I move in, I guarantee you that I will have a dog!
One of my favorite dogs is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. How do those fair on your list? I thought them to be low-shed dogs, but maybe I'm wrong?
Wonderful hub, Whitney! Just wish you had more pictures I could peruse:P lol
