Winter's Kiss - Book Review F.E. Heaton

I’m a huge fan of vampire novels, and I’ve read my fair share of cheesy script, as well as those novels and novellas that have really left me with a ‘wow.’

When I read the summary of “Winter’s Kiss,” I debated on whether or not I wanted to purchase it. I passed it up a few times, but always found myself going back to the description. I took a leap of faith that it couldn’t be that bad, and well, I was quite surprised by the book.

I figured that another story of a vampire and werewolf could definitely have been limited. I had enough with the Underworld storyline with a vampire and a were, which is what led me astray with this one… I wasn’t sure what to think, and I’ll even admit that it was slow to start… But, once you get started, you won’t want to put this book down.

Heaton was able to create a story of a distant love come true. The story is of a man and woman who had spent years eyeing each other from afar, both scared to make that next move. When Winter hears a scream in the woods, he immediately knew that she was in trouble.

Saving her from the werewolves, Winter cared for and protected Nika, who was slowly transforming into a werewolf.

As we’ve seen throughout other books, movies, and media, a relationship between a werewolf and a vampire is absurd and unheard of. It just isn’t right to mix species, but Winter loves Nika, and Nika loves Winter.

Winter must protect Nika from Willem, the werewolf who has bitten her. At the same time, he must try not to fall further in love with her, as he knows that he cannot have a relationship outside of his species, and as a were, he cannot turn her.

Nika is not keen on the idea that Winter will not to stay with her. She just does not understand it, and she fights it throughout the entire storyline. Her persistence is sweet and innocent as she learns more and more about Winter.

Once you reach the end, all the signs all add up. You can assume what will happen next, but even still, the ending may bring tears to your eyes. It is sweet, innocent, and it comes from a killer’s mouth.

Heaton was able to bring a predictable ending into a storyline in a way that still shocks you (to some extent).

I don’t want to spoil everything, so this is one book that I definitely suggest. It is a great vampire romance story that brings in a traditional storyline of a vampire protecting what he wants with a slight twist of a werewolf who’s trying to find her paws in her new society.
